Coulson Building Group were appointed as main contractor to construct the final phase of the Long Road Sports Development with the provision of a new large pavilion facility and associated external works.
This project consisted of a joint partnership with Homerton College and St Marys School who came up with the ambitious plan to develop some land off long road to provide exceptional new sporting facilities for their students. The project commenced with the demolition of the old sports pavilion and the construction of the a new sub station to take the new incoming mains. The new sports pavilion that involved piled foundations, ground bearing slab, steel frame, brickwork, standing seam roof and full M&E installation with all block walls exposed internally provided the users with high quality changing rooms, officials changing rooms, kitchenette, WCs/showers, offices and storage for plant and equipment. External works included a new cark park with ‘grasscrete’ parking areas and the roadway leading to the pavilion being resurfaced.
The project was logistically challenging due to the location of the site with access via a small single track roadway and also the train line being nearby limiting the size of cranes and deliveries onto site. This meant for careful planning, innovative ideas and expert site management throughout the project duration.
