Coulson Building Group were appointed by the church to design and build a community hall for the church’s and the wider local residents to use. The new build provided the church with a new hall, WCs, kitchen, office, off road parking, cycle shelter, storage shed and plenty of green space for activities outside.
The church had been using an existing portable cabin for the last 20 years of which was coming to the end of its life span. The land was donated to the church by a local farmer to help the church in building a village hall to be used by the local community. Upon recent successes and vast amount of experience on similar church projects, the client contacted Coulson Building Group to design and build a new community hall for the village. Coulson employed Ingleton Wood as the multi discipline design partner to take the project from concept stage through to construction including all the associated surveys, obtaining planning permission and building regulations and providing detailed drawings; all to a strict church budget of which was successfully maintained.
The design consisted of strip foundations with a beam and block floor, Steel frame with timber and insulation infills for the structure, brick plinth wall and self coloured hardie plank for the wall finishes, oak structure to form the porch, tiled roof finish with uPVC rainwater goods, uPVC windows and doors, metal partitions to form the rooms, hard wearing vinyl throughout, acoustic ceiling to the hall and suspended ceiling to the rest of the building, Howden’s kitchen and full electrical and mechanical installation. The foul drainage was connected into the existing mains with the surface water drainage consisting of an attenuation tank with the overflow running into the nearby brook. External works consisted of a DDA parking place, gravel car park, pathway to the rear of the building, cycle shelter, storage shed and increasing the width of the entrance to the site from the road.
The project was delayed due to COVID-19 lockdown but essentially completed on programme and within the clients budget.
