Coulson Building Group were appointed as main contractor through a PCSA to work alongside the project and design team during the preliminary preconstruction stages. Through an open book approach with the second stage costs, we were then appointed as main contractor to conduct the refurbishment works to Maidwell Hall School.
The main works consisted of an internal refurbishment to produce a new library, parents waiting area, parents flat, girls and boys changing rooms, WCs, staff room and commercial kitchen. The circulation areas were all decorated along with all new LED light fittings to improve the schools electrical efficiency. Other works consisted of a boiler replacement and roof repairs.
Maidwell Hall is a boarding school and therefore the project and particular items of work was programmed to minimise impact on the overall school activities. It was decided to phase the project with staged handover dates, all of which were planned into the schools itinerary and signed off by the users of the school.
The project had an extremely tight programme to ensure the majority of the internal works were completed before the children returned from their summer holidays. We were able to handover the internal rooms at the end of the summer holidays of which was due to careful planning, close collaboration and open discussions with the project team and utilising our very own efficient and experienced supply chain who are familiar working on education projects.
