Coulson Building Group were appointed as main contractor to refurbish the three floors of the new wing student accommodation at Girton College during the summer of 2021.

The works consisted of new kitchens, new bathrooms, light refurbishment of bedrooms and corridors/stairwells and an extensive mechanical and electrical fit out including new boilers to the plant room. With all the new pipework being replaced there was also extensive fire stopping works to all risers, cavity walls, openings and to the loft space. This was to ensure the building was brought upto current fire and building regulations.

The majority of the joinery works were done by Coulson Joinery of whom were contracted to refurbish and update the existing doors to current fire regs. All of which was done on all existing doors and expertly updated back in our Cambridge workshop. Their works also consisted of supplying and installing new fire doors and screens to the corridors and new headboards to the beds.

The project had an extremely tight programme to ensure that no works were done during term times and which through careful planning, collaboration  with the design team and a very efficient supply chain, we were able to hand the project over on time and budget.
