Working in Partnership with Pick Everard, Coulson Building Group were appointed to design and build a new steel framed extension “wing” to the existing school and a further two more extensions along with a major refurbishment of half the existing school.

The project was done over 2 phases, the first phase being the large extension and associated external works and then phase 2 the hall and activity extension being implemented once the pupils were relocated into the new extension to keep them away from the building works. Within the six weeks of summer, all the refurbishment works were completed so there was no clash or distractions with staff and pupils. Further logistic plans were developed due to sharing the entrance of the school with staff and children.

The construction method included additional infill extensions using both timber frame and brick/block construction between a steel frame on concrete foundations and slab, and having both flat and pitched roofs. We developed the Internal layout using modifications and general refurbishment works. The removal of an external open air swimming pool and associated external works and landscaping completed the project.

This phased project and our meticulous programme / logistic plan allowed the school to remain operational throughout the school year with minimal disruption.
