Coulson were appointed as main contractor to carry out the construction of the 128 space temporary car park for Peterborough City Council.
Originally a green space within a local park, PCC required additional parking for the nearby leisure centre and approval was gained to construct a temporary car park.
Ecology was a high priority and therefore the construction traffic was not to disturb the local environment. Therefore careful consideration was given to the site access and the car park was designed so it wouldn’t effect the nearby trees and wildlife. The car park was constructed with no dig areas around the trees and very limited digging to the main area. The finish of the car park consisted of permeable tarmac and grasscrete. A new mains power supply was brought into the site via UKPN, to power the ticket machines and external lighting. A small timber fence was erected to the perimeter of the car park and white lining provided to display the parking bays. Another part of the works consisted of enlarging a couple of DDA parking bays and relining the Coach parking area to make it more visible.
The project was handed over snag free and on programme.
