Coulson Building Group were appointed main contractor and worked alongside Pick Everard to design and build the conversion of an old village college into a primary school and nursery.

The main element of the project involved the construction of 3 separate extensions to form 3 additional classrooms, 1 additional nursery room and to form a new entranceway to the school. These extensions were built with a steel frame, timber infills, external cladding and render with a clay tile roof finish. A canopy was constructed to the rear of the nursery to protect the young children when playing outside. The rest of the school was stripped out and all rooms involved a major refurbishment and re configuration to suit the new requirements of the primary school. To give the school a new look, the front façade was overclad with cladding and render along with the car park being resurfaced.

During the construction stage, the client instructed us to re roof the entire existing school with new insulation and a felt system. This £400k variation was successfully done during the original programme and did not affect the overall completion date.

Construction of the extension and refurbishment works were completed within the 40-week timescale allowing school occupation to the start of the calendar year of 2019 term.
